In collaboration with the Wilderness Society, Alaska Wilderness League, and Sierra Club, the local chapter of Stand.earth will host evening gathering “The Sacred Place Where Life Begins: Stories from the Arctic Refuge” on Wednesday, May 8th.
Join for some snacks, drinks, and inspiring images with two short film screenings to highlight the threat to the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. Attendees will also be given an update on the growing campaign to protect this special place. The night of shorts and conversation will take place at the Bozeman Event Space, 14 S Tracy Ave., beginning at 7pm. Free and open to the public.
The first of the films, Welcome to Gwichyaa Zhee, is a short by filmmaker Greg Balkin and Dr. Len Necefer that features an intimate look at the Gwich’in community of Fort Yukon, Alaska and their quest to protect their home.
The second, Where Life Begins, is a short by filmmaker Katie Shuler with additional content provided by Kristin Gates and Jeremy Lazelle. The film explores the inseparable bond between mother and child, and the sacred and fragile moments after birth and the importance of protecting “the sacred place where life begins.”
