Celebrate migratory birds and actions that can be taken to help them, 365 days a year
Join Sacajawea Audubon to help celebrate one of the most spectacular events across the planet – bird migration! World Migratory Bird Day, whose 2019 theme is “Be the Solution to Plastic Pollution,” comes to Bozeman with events on May 10th and 11th
World Migratory Bird Day is a celebration of our planet’s major migratory bird corridors, or flyways, namely the African-Eurasian, the East Asian-Australasian, and the Americas flyways. Events are taking place at refuges, parks, museums, schools, zoos, and right here at Bozeman’s trails, theaters and public library. Join Sacajawea Audubon Society for the second annual World Migratory Bird Day Festival in Bozeman!
The Convention on Migratory Species (CMS), the African-Eurasian Waterbird Agreement (AEWA) and Environment for the Americas (EFTA) have joined forces to strengthen global recognition and appreciation of migratory birds. The 2019 theme will put the spotlight on the impact of plastic pollution on migratory birds and their habitats. At this year’s festival, learn how to reduce plastic waste and commit to protecting birds today and for the future. All events are FREE and open to the public.
The Festival kicks off on Friday, May 10th, with a 7pm screening of Epic Yellowstone: Life on the Wing at Downtown Bozeman’s Ellen Theatre. The film was made locally by Grizzly Creek Films as part of a four-part series recently broadcast on the Smithsonian Channel. Following the screening, there will be a panel discussion with the filmmakers.
On Saturday, May 11th, come to the Festival of Family Activities at the Bozeman Public Library from 10am–1pm with something for everyone! Make bird-inspired arts & crafts, take the Great Migration Challenge, play the Winds of Migration game, learn how to use binoculars and join a bird-watching walk, find birding books and apps in the Bookmobile, and more!
World Migratory Bird Day is sponsored by Bozeman Public Library, Gallatin Valley Land Trust, Montana Raptor Conservation Center, Wild Birds Unlimited, and Big Sky Bird Rescue.
Sacajawea Audubon’s mission is to build on an interest in birds to promote the conservation of our natural environment through enjoyment, education and action. Learn more about the organization and World Migratory Bird Day events at www.sacajaweaaudubon.org.
